Phillip Sear plays a masterly novelty number by the sadly short-lived South African-born, Raie da Costa (1907-34). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Raie da Costa (1905-34) has to be one of the most remarkable female pianists of the 20th century, and produced some amazing recordings (particularly with orchestra) of her light piano pieces. Film footage shows her sitting at the piano at what looks an uncomfortable angle, and very large hands which would have no trouble with the big left hand chords used in novelty music (see here: https://tinyurl.com/ybek3fbh ) - thus explaining the difficulty of her published solo music. I have done my best with this, but I can't match her dexterity and stretch!
