At a viewer's request, Phillip Sear plays a piano solo adaptation of a sentimental song (with words by Fred E.. Weatherly) from 1891 by the American composer Reginald de Koven (1859-1920). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The American composer Reginald de Koven (1859-1920) went to Europe at only 11 or 12 to study - variously in England, Germany, Italy and Paris (with Delibes). He returned to the USA in 1882 and worked in Chicago and New York as a critic and composer. He wrote 20 light operas and two serious ones, as well as ballets, songs and instrumental music. He is remembered for a song ' Oh Promise Me ' which is apparently still used at weddings.
