Agriculture cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri is on the spot over a decision to allow importation of 10 million bags of maize while the government had gazetted only 6 million bags. Kiunjuri was at pains to explain to the senate’s adhoc committee on maize how an extra 4 million bags of maize got into the country resulting to an influx. The senators are also concerned over a delay to direct destruction of contaminated maize that has already been condemned by the Kenya bureau of standards.
