Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Customize Icons in Excel: RibbonX and More. Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we're going to be discussing how to customize icons in Excel. But before we dive into that, I have a special request for all of you. Our 10th anniversary is coming up this Friday and I would love to hear your feedback. I'm taking a quick survey and I want to know what we're doing right, what we're doing wrong, and any other ideas you have for the site. My marketing guru thinks we won't get more than 150 responses, but I know my community is better than that. So please take a few minutes to fill out the survey at MrExcel.com/survey.html before November 21st. Your input means a lot to me and it will prove my marketing guru wrong! Now, let's get into today's topic. We all know that in Excel 2003, we could easily customize our toolbar by adding macros and even changing the icon. But in Excel 2007, things are a bit different. So the question is, how can we do the same thing in Excel 2007? Well, it's not as straightforward as it used to be. When we go to customize the Quick Access Toolbar, we do have the option to add macros, but the ability to change the icon has been removed. Microsoft expects us to use Ribbon X, which allows us to create our own custom tabs and icons. However, this can be quite challenging for those who are not familiar with coding. If you're interested in learning how to use Ribbon X, I highly recommend the book "Ribbon X: Customizing the Office 2007 Ribbon" by Ken Puls. This book, written by two Excel MVPs, provides step-by-step instructions and examples on how to create your own custom tabs and icons in Excel 2007. It's a great resource for those who want to take their Excel customization to the next level. However, for those who are not comfortable with coding, the old icon editor in Excel 2003 was much easier to use. In conclusion, while Excel 2007 may have removed the ability to easily customize icons, it has also given us more power through Ribbon X. So if you're up for the challenge, I highly recommend checking out the book "Ribbon X: Customizing the Office 2007 Ribbon". And as always, thank you for tuning in to the MrExcel netcast.
