Phillip Sear plays a graceful minuet (with a surprise ending) by Josef Rheinberger, Liechtenstein's greatest 19th century composer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Liechtenstein's most famous musician, Josef Rheinberger (1839-1901) studied in Munich, and though best known as a composer of organ music, also wrote a fair quantity of piano music. This short piece, published in a German periodical in 1884, was written as a 70th birthday present for the Bavarian poet and dramatist Franz Trautmann (1813-87), one or two of whose poems Rheinberger had used for songs. There is a distinct Bavarian flavour to this minuet, it seems to me!
