Think bumper cars on a slip and slide, that's what the hill on Harvest Run Drive was like Tuesday afternoon when it was blanketed with snow. It was terrible, said Arnold Foster, cleaning of his car at the bottom of the hill on Wednesday morning. Foster was one of the first people to come move his car from the bottom of the hill along Hwy 58 in Chattanooga. There was about five or six wrecks on the hill, said Foster, people were sliding down.Yesterday's snow blanketed the roadways and made travel up the steep hill nearly impossible. People were out here screaming because cars were sliding down, said Calvin Bowman. His daughter, Marijiah saw what was happening and yelled out to people trying to tackle the inclineNo, no, stop, BE CARFUL! she said. Marijiah Bowman describes what she saw last night. They would slide down and they would hit one car, then hit another car and hit another car, said Marijiah. Bowman and her father didn't chance it and parked at the bottom of the hill. It's too dangerous and too big of a risk to try and make it up the hill, said Calvin. Car after car tried heading up the steep hill, until community members stepped in. They actually had people down at the bottom stopping people from going up because they were just running into each other, said Scott Tucker, it was a mess. One of those people helping was Keith Melvin Cars crashed up on the side, stuck in ditches, said Melvin, it was a mad house.Melvin threw salt and sand under tires to push car after car out of harms way. It's what you're supposed to do, said Melvin, it's a community and everyone is supposed to help everybody. If conditions are too dangerous to drive in, Chattanooga Police encourage people to move their vehicles as far out of the road way as possible -- remain in their car and out of harms way and call either the police, or a wrecker service.
