South Sudan’s President Kiir signs peace deal

South Sudan president has finally appended his signature on the international brokered peace agreement a fortnight after former vice president Riek Machar signed it. Though with reservations about the deal, Kiir said his government was ready and has been in the fore front to seek peaceful resolutions in the war torn nation. He urged IGAD leaders to stand by the South Sudan as the embark on the new pathway. Witnessing the signing of the peace deal president Uhuru Kenyatta promised south Sudan of his government support saying the peace deal was not only beneficial to south Sudan but the whole region. The ceremony was also attended by Ethiopian leader Hailemariam Desalegn and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni, among other international dignitaries.
