Franz Behr (1837-1898) was a prolific German composer of salon music, and is best known today for the polka which forms the basis of Rachmaninov's 'Polka de W.R.'. He also wrote under various pseudonyms, including 'Charles Godard'. This piece probably dates from the late 1860s - and I am not sure what set it is from. It is really a nocturne with a quite grandiose ending, and shows an interesting kinship with similar pieces from the period by Franz Bendel and Joachim Raff.
