CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Hundreds of high school girls got out of school Tuesday but still got quite a day of education.

Students with big aspirations and goals attended a great place for inspiration. More than 200 students from 16 different schools attended STEM Goes Red at the Cintas Center.

"I want to do something in the field of math or science," Aichabah, a junior at Princeton High School, said.

Another junior named Jocelyn said, "I want to go into the medical field."

More than 100 female role models were in the session of speed mentoring at STEM Goes Red.

"We hope they can encourage them to go into fields that maybe they don't know a lot about. Science, technology, engineering and math. STEM fields -- and really give them some new dreams and some new role models," STEM Goes Red chairperson Caitlin Clipp said.

It's pretty clear the girls in attendance could change their own futures, especially in careers in research and development.

"So much of the research is being done on men and not women because we don't have female researchers, so we need to have some going into those science careers," Clipp said.

The goal of the event was also to teach young women that heart disease is the number-one killer of women and that a few healthy habits could prevent problems. There were sessions on eating better, exercise and CPR. The girls also learned about the importance of blood pressure and managing stress.

Denise Brown from The Christ Hospital said, "This age is really important for us to touch base with them early and let them know that they do have some control over the stress in their life."
