CPD chief says city needs to move up police recruit class as officers retire in wave

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Police Chief Eliot Isaac says the city needs to put hiring new officers on the fast track to keep the city safe.

Isaac told city leaders that a wave of retirements means fewer officers on the street. Currently, the next recruit class is scheduled to begin April 2019.

The chief says, at that point, the city will have fewer than 1,000 officers. That would mean officers would have to work overtime to cover shifts.

Isaac wants City Council to move up the recruit class to avoid that.
