Government turns to low volume roads to cut construction costs

The Ministry of Works and Transport has launched what it calls “General Specifications” for Low Volume Roads, that could reduce the cost of building roads from 1.5billion shillings per kilometre to about 500 million.

Works Minister Monica Ntege Azuba, says that government is going to pilot with the construction of at least 200 KM of low volume roads in 24 districts of Uganda, this Financial year.

Uganda’s taxpayers have been experiencing massive fraud and exaggerated costs in construction of road works worth Trillions of shillings of over the years, complete with poor and non-lasting infrastructure.
