Kenya to set up a trade remedy authority to fight dumping of obsolete goods

Kenya is in the process of setting up a trade remedies authority to fight the dumping of substandard and obsolete goods. The latest Logistics Performance Survey indicates that the Port of Mombasa is the cheapest route for those importing goods into Eastern Africa compared to the Port of Dar es Salaam, though transportation costs from Mombasa via road or rail remains exorbitantly high. Trade Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo says this has contributed to the high volume of substandard goods imported for other countries being dumped in Kenya.
