I have always been a fan of the beauty dish for my portrait photography. It has allowed me to have soft light with a small edge to it. Beauty dishes are strobe and flash modifiers that offer a way of getting a smoother sort of edgy look to your strobe photography. But through time I have discovered that by modifying the small disk that is found in the middle of a beauty disk, one can also get alternative looks with varying light warmth and coolness. 

I my quest to find the perfect portrait with my DSLR I found myself working with amateur model Annabelle. Annabelle is an actress who, like me, needed portfolio photos and was ready to work TFP to get them. Although she was a bit shy at the beginning, her acting skills came into play and she rapidly learned the tricks of the trade.

Marjorie Hardy, the make up artist, was looking for a golden look. Her makeup did not disappoint and the idea was to get light that would do the same thing. I used the following equipment for this shoot

Beaty dish with gold reflector
