For what seems like a simple plastic clip, this phone mount is effective and durable. The part that holds your phone is just a clamp on a ball joint that allows you to rotate the phone into landscape or portrait mode. The mount fits phones from 1.25" to 3" in width and the jaws of the clamp are easy to pull apart, even with one hand. The grooves inside the silicone lined jaws have a tight grip and keep a firm hold on the phone. I didn't have any trouble with the phone falling out of the clamp nor the mount falling off the vent, even during bumpy drives. The nice part is that the phone isn't blocking my view because it's not attached to the windshield or dashboard.
