I'm at the 2017 Vancouver International Boat Show, and I'm getting back into fishing, so today we're taking a closer look at a Duckworth aluminum fishing boat. I'm joined by someone who knows these boats a whole lot better than I do, and we're going through the features, construction and equipment that make this setup interesting for somebody who actually wants to get out on the water and fish. One of the first things that stands out to me is the fit and finish. The construction looks solid, the assembly looks clean, and you can immediately see that this isn't just a bare-bones aluminum fishing boat. We talk about the hull design and deadrise, and then start going through some of the practical fishing equipment. One feature I completely forgot about is the washdown system. When you're fishing on the West Coast and you've got fish, blood and guts all over the deck, having a pump that can draw water and let you hose everything down suddenly makes a whole lot of sense! We also check out the rod-holder locations and talk about the differences between the soft-top and hardtop configurations. The hardtop gives you additional possibilities for rod storage and rocket launchers, but there's another advantage: the additional weight and enclosed structure up front can make the boat feel different when you're running through rougher water. Then we get into power. We're looking at a setup with a Yamaha 150-horsepower outboard along with a smaller auxiliary/kicker motor. That's plenty of power for a boat this size. We also talk about fuel capacity and what you might realistically spend filling one of these things. Obviously fuel consumption depends heavily on conditions, speed, load and how you're operating the boat, but it's interesting hearing some real-world experience about taking one fishing for the day. And that's exactly why I'm filming these videos. I'm getting back into fishing myself, and rather than pretending I already know everything about these newer boats, I'm talking directly with people in the industry and learning what buyers should actually be looking for. If you're considering a Duckworth, Yamaha-powered fishing boat, aluminum fishing boat or something for the waters around British Columbia and Vancouver Island, take a look. If you've owned one, I'd especially like to hear from you. How has it held up? How does it handle rough water? What kind of fuel economy are you getting? And what equipment would you consider absolutely necessary for a West Coast fishing setup? Comment below and don't forget to subscribe. Thanks for watching!
