Norfolk Southern Local Removing Storage Cars Prior To Closure, 1-15-14 & 1-16-14 ◄

Norfolk Southern Railroad was preparing to close this railroad line by removing all railroad cars that had been in storage. NS wanted to abandon this old Norfolk & Western Railway coal route. NS T51 arriving at Sardinia Ohio to retrieve box cars that have been in storage here for months. After getting the cars on the east end of the siding, T51 backed west onto the main and shut down for the night in Sardinia. The next day, T51 went to Peebles to run around their train, set off one flat car and pick up 5 loaded flat cars, and then returned to Sardinia to get the box cars on the west end of the siding. After that, they returned to Sharonville with 58 cars. PS: There were about a half dozen flat cars in the middle of the box cars in storage at Sardinia. They were left in place on the siding. Filmed January 15, 2014 and January 16, 2014.

Update: All cars were removed from this line and it is out of service since 4-25-14 between MP33 and MP106 at end of line. Sardinia is now dead and the tracks are rusty. One customer is still served at MP30 but NS leased the line out to a new rail company: CCET

Update: CCET RY reopened the line March 20, 2015 to MP62.4 to reach the Winchester grain elevator and be able to run around their train on the siding that is a few miles past Winchester at Mt Zion which is near Seaman Ohio. Then, early 2017 the line was opened to MP78.445 for car storage and to access the Plum Rum gravel quarry just east of Peebles Ohio to obtain gravel for track ballast. I got these trains on video!
