Typhoon Jelawat continues to move northeastward towards the Japanese mainland, and is still a dangerous Category 2 storm as it passes the Amami Islands. Warnings are now in effect for the southwestern tip of mainland Japan, and these are expected to extend along the south coast as the storm moves closer. The storm is expected to make landfall east of Shizuoka, and move back out over the sea before turning extratropical. Stay tuned for more updates.
