Spain's players say they were completely behind Vicente del Bosque's decision to play with no recognised striker for their Euro 2012 opener with Italy. They ended up drawing that match 1-1, meaning they're under pressure to win their next Group C game with Ireland.

"There are a lot of opinions about the game. We think, all of us, that the decision (to play without a traditional striker) was a good one because the manager always wants to win the games and until now things have gone the right way. It is our style and I think we have so many alternatives to play the games."

The defending champions face an Ireland side who will be eager to bounce back after their 3-1 loss to Croatia. Both teams will be looking for their first win of the tournament, with the pressure weighing more on the Irish. But Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has brushed off any suggestions defending their title is putting any extra strain on Spain's players.

"When you win, people get used to winning and they want it again, but we should be more calm even though it may be difficult to let your experiences run away with you. Equally there are Spanish players who play for Barca and Real Madrid who are used to winning, so it's the same pressure whether you are playing for your club or country."

The two sides go head-to-head in Gdansk on Thursday.
