Polonia Waraszawa kicked off the new Polish Ekstraklasa season with an away trip to Gdansk's PGE Arena, as they faced Lechia Gdansk on Monday. 

And they were hoping for similar luck as Euro 2012 champions Spain, who played all of their group games in the stadium. After four minutes, it looked as though luck was in their favour as Daniel Golebiewski sprung the offside trap to put the visitors ahead. 

But seven minutes later, Lechia who finished 13th in the league last season hit back. Piotr Wisniewski's pin-point free-kick squeezed in at the near post. With just over 15 minutes on the clock, the game had its third goal. 

Lechia failed to clear a corner and Pawel Wszolek bundled the ball in from a yard out. The hosts continued to press, but they were made to pay as Warszawa broke from a Lechia free-kick. 

Jacek Kielb finished off a quick-counter attack to ensure an opening day win for Polonia. Next up for last season's sixth place side is a home fixture against Lech Poznan.
