This is my favorite recipe for making horse treats for my horses! It has ground flax seed which is rich in omega 3's, so it will help your horse's coat and hooves! 

My horses love these treats!

This is a double batch recipe that I made in the video, so if it makes too much, just decrease the size by half.

Homemade Flax Horse Treats:
2 cups shredded apples (make sure there are no seeds)
2 cups shredded carrots
2 cups quick oats
1-1/2 cups ground flax seed
1/2 -1 cup of water
1 cup (or so) of molasses
peppermint candies
You can add brown sugar if you want to, but I have never needed to, the horses love them without the sugar.

I forgot to mention,preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit!

Start by shredding the apples and carrots and then mixing them together in a large mixing bowl.
Then add the quick oats, water, flax seed, and molasses and mix it all up. If it is too dry, add more water and molasses. If it is too runny, add more flax seed and oats.
You want it to be the consistency of cookie dough so you can form a ball (sort of) and then drop 2" sized portions onto a greased cookie sheet.
Once you have the cookies on the baking sheet take a peppermint candy and place in the center of the cookie.

Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes and allow to cool once you remove them from the oven.

Allow them to COMPLETELY cool before giving the treats to your horse.

This isn't the typical horse treat recipe you will find, I have replaced using flour with the ground flax seed. It is more nutritious for your horse,and has the added benefit of making the coat shine!

I think if you try this recipe you will see the benefit in your horses coat in a few weeks. 

I found the ground flax seed at Wal-Mart for about $7.00
