Crayons to Computers kicks off school supply drive

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - It's the middle of summer, but the back-to-school push has already started.

Kenwood Towne Centre hosted the kick-off for Crayons to Computers' supply drive. The nonprofit had a "stuff the van" event Saturday. Macy's donated money and visitors dropped off school supplies.

The campaign, which runs through September, serves over 150,000 needy students in greater Cincinnati.

"They come to school with no papers, no pencils, no crayons. And teachers are typically spending anywhere from $500 to $1,000 of money out of their own pocket in order to provide the supplies for their children to be successful in school," said president and CEO of Crayons to Computers Amy Cheney.

Crayons to Computers helps those teachers by giving them some supplies for free. Qualifying teachers can start shopping on Aug. 6.
