Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Use the Fill Handle Before Pressing Enter in an Excel cell.

Welcome to another MrExcel netcast! Today, we're going to talk about a simple but incredibly useful tip for using the fill handle in Excel. I can't even count how many times I've shown this trick in my power Excel seminars. The fill handle is a great tool for quickly filling in months, days of the week, dates, and more. And I'm going to show you how to use it even faster.

Usually, when I need to fill in a series of dates, I'll type in the first month, hit enter, and then use the up arrow to go back to the first cell. From there, I'll grab the fill handle and drag it down to fill in the rest of the dates. But did you know there's an even faster way to do this? Instead of hitting enter after typing in the first month, just click and drag the fill handle without letting go. This will automatically fill in the rest of the dates for you, saving you the extra step of hitting enter.

But wait, it gets even better. You don't even have to type in the first month and hit enter. Just type in the month and click and drag the fill handle without letting go. This will fill in the rest of the months without you having to hit enter at all. It's like using the shortcut Ctrl + enter, but even faster. So next time you need to fill in a series of dates, remember this trick and save yourself some time.
