Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Selecting Regions, Undoing Actions, & Formatting Subtotals. Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast! I'm Bill Jelen and today we have three quick tips that came up in recent seminars. These tips may be short, but they are definitely worth knowing. So, let's dive right in and see if we can solve some common Excel problems. First up, let's talk about shortcut keys. We all know that CTRL+A selects all cells in a worksheet, but did you know that if you select a cell within a range of data and press CTRL+A, it will select the entire region? And if you press CTRL+A a second time, it will select the entire worksheet. This is a great time-saving tip that I personally use all the time. Another shortcut key that you may not be aware of is ALT+Backspace, which is an alternative way to undo your last action. Thanks to one of our seminar attendees, Derek, for sharing this tip with us. Next, let's talk about applying special formatting to subtotal rows. This can be a bit tricky, but here's a neat trick that will make it easier. First, make sure to exclude the Grand Total row when selecting your subtotal rows. Then, press ALT+; to select only the visible cells. Now, go to Format Cells and choose a top and bottom border. This will apply the formatting to just the subtotal rows, without affecting the Grand Total row. It's a small detail, but it can make a big difference in the appearance of your data. Lastly, I want to thank all the attendees from our recent seminars for sharing these tips with us. As always, these tips and more can be found on the Excel master pit.
