Doctors in Johannesburg have made history by performing a liver transplant from an HIV-positive mother to her uninfected infant. The Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre is the only facility in southern Africa that runs a free paediatric liver transplant programme. But waiting periods for donors can be long.
