When it's freezing cold (below zero) here in the northern states, most of us know how to prepare for it. But maybe you're young and don't have all the knowledge of us 'older folks' lol..or perhaps you're a new transplant from a warmer climate and have never had to deal with freezing temps before. Either way, I hope this video helps you to be prepared for freezing temps while you're driving. Especially if you're driving long distances between cities. If you should happen to break down or get caught up in a snowstorm you need to have some supplies on hand in order to stay warm and alive till help comes. If your car is stuck, but still runs, make sure there isn't any snow blocking the exhaust pipe. If there is, dig it out. You don't want that carbon monoxide traveling straight back into the car. Stay IN your car. Walking around could get you injured or lost especially at night or during white out conditions. Hypothermia can set in quickly as well when the temperature gets below zero. First off, use your cell phone to call for help. If your phone is dead or you don't have a signal then your number one concern is going to be staying warm and dry. Run your car with the heat on for short intervals. Listen to the radio for updates on the weather, road conditions, and to see if authorities may be in your area. If possible, keep the snow cleared off most of your car so people will see it when passing by. Put your headlights and flashers on whenever you're running the car. If you can, build a small fire a short distance away from your car. The smoke may be noticed and you can warm something to eat or drink. If you have flares be sure to use them at night. Move around as much as you can inside the car to help keep yourself warm. Try not to get wet, but if a piece of your clothing should get wet remove it right away. Try to position it by your car heater so it can dry quicker. Bundle up with whatever blankets or spare clothes you have. All the items I showed you in the video are what I drive around with all winter long. When I taped the video (today) the morning had started off at -10 and eventually rose to 5 (Fahrenheit), but then the snow came and the wind picked up. Below zero windchills can leave exposed skin frostbitten within minutes. For preppers, this is not a go bag or a bob, it is a winter car kit. Items to keep you safe and healthy should you get stuck during a snowstorm or freezing weather. If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to comment! I'd appreciate it.
