The Street Store Comes to Chattanooga

The Street Store is an idea that originated in South Africa and is now in Chattanooga.  Students at Southern Adventist University teamed up with the Salvation Army of Chattanooga to set up the Street Store on McCallie Avenue in Chattanooga.

It's a pop up shop that offers free clothes and shoes to homeless people in the community.

Student coordinators Natalie Herrera and Aaron Snelgrove at Southern Adventist University describe the Street Store as, "A dignified shopping experience.  Itt looks like a store, it acts like a store but there is no cost for the people."

Delisa Vines and her granddaughter Tracy were two of the close to 100 people who were waiting in line before the Street Store opened this morning.  This was their opportunity to pick out what they want, rather than just take what they can get.

"It's a blessing it help me out at home with their clothing, because it is nice new stuff and beautiful," said Delisa Vines.

According to the Salvation Army, more than 300 people came through to go shopping at the Street Store. Students and staff working gave away 339 articles of clothing and 50 pairs of shoes.
