Fertiliser imports threaten Uganda's Agriculture exports to the EU

Although Uganda's has experienced bumper harvests of selected commodities, actual agricultural output continues to decline, in part due to poor inputs and lack of fertilisers. The Minister of Agriculture Vincent Ssempija, says that chemical fertilisers and such imports into the country is barely helping this situation that threatens Uganda's export returns into delicate markets such as the European Union. The remedy he argues is for the country, to rapidly have its own organic fertiliser threshold expanded, in order to widen output and foreign exchange earnings out of the external markets.
