Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Two ways to Round in Excel.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we're going to tackle a common issue when dealing with large amounts of data - rounding. Our viewer, Gopal, has asked about rounding numbers to the nearest integer, always rounding up to the next highest number. So, let's dive in and see how we can solve this problem using Excel.

First, let's talk about rounding in general. Most of the time, we use the ROUND function to round numbers. We simply specify the number we want to round and how many digits we want to round to. For example, if we want to round to the nearest penny, we would use two decimal places. But what if we need to round to the nearest ten dollars? In that case, we can use the ROUND function with a negative digit, which will round up to the nearest 10.

But what about rounding to more specific numbers, like nickels? That's where the MROUND function comes in. The "M" stands for multiple, so we can use this function to round to the nearest 0.05. And for Gopal's question, where we always want to round up, there are two functions - ROUNDUP and ROUNDDOWN. These functions allow us to specify the direction we want to round in, always rounding up or down to the nearest integer.
