7 crashes occur on Fort Washington Way Sunday, one involving police cruiser

DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Fort Washington Way was shut down on Sunday afternoon after a Cincinnati Police cruiser was struck by another car.

Cincinnati Police were on scene investigating a crash when a second car driving on U.S. 50 lost control and hit the cruiser.

The police officer on scene was out of his cruiser but avoided getting hit. However, the officer was still transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for observation.

Police say this was the third crash on Sunday on that same stretch of Fort Washington Way.

A total of seven accidents happened in the same spot on Sunday.

Jenifer Moore, a spokesperson with AAA says this time of year drivers must use caution on wet and leafy roadways.

“Nearly 1.2 million traffic crashes occur nationwide during wet weather conditions so it’s critical that all drivers pay attention to where they are going, slow down, allow ample driving room between you and the car in front of you,” Moore said.

In 2017, there were nearly 9,000 crashes on wet roads in Ohio, people died in 92 of them according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

The driver of the car that hit the police SUV will most likely be cited for the crash.
