I was inspired by John Zhu’s video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj3oeknswio) were he carves a branding iron with his logo on it, on to a piece of round bar stock.  If you aren’t familiar with his YouTube channel I highly suggest you check it out.  He does a great job of explaining his process and his projects.  Pretty much all of his project builds have stories behind them which he articulates very well. I attempted to use the same method he used but I was not successful the rotary tool I was using just didn’t have enough power to make the cuts.  Or the steel I chose was just to hard.  So I regrouped and made a branding iron using the method in my video.  I didn’t do any research on this style of branding iron I just made it up as I went along.   In this video I also do some welding, which I am very inexperienced with, but I gave it a shot and I try to learn as I go.  One of the issues that I had was that the letters ended up sitting proud of the square frame that surrounds them so the square frame doesn’t get burned onto the material.  Only the letters get burned in.  I’m not sure why this happened but I am attributing it to my poor welding skills.  I think the splatter ended up mucking up the letter placement but that’s just a guess.   When I mocked up the pieces everything was sitting flush and level so not sure what happened.  I could sand it down to where it sits flush but I’m afraid to remove that much material from the already thin letters.  Other than that it came out okay.  I will definitely use it because well its an excuse to play with fire and use a branding iron:)  I hope you enjoy the video and as always thanks for watching.
