Men are hardly thought of as people who take grooming their hair seriously, but that is not true. There are a lot of men who take grooming hair and looking good very seriously. In the 1940s and 1950s it was the pomade brushed hair, while the 1960s and 1970s brought the Afro. It is said that men prefer the Mohawk hairstyle when they want to have a harder, fiercer look. Some men wear their hair in plaits or dreadlocks. One hairstyle that has stayed popular with black men is the clean shaven haircut, which is called the chiskop in South Africa.
