Geoffrey Shaw (1879-1943) was an English organist, music educator, and composer (pupil of Stanford at Cambridge), who, with his brother Martin (1875-1958) was important in the revival of English church and other vocal music (in particular many part-songs). The brothers were (uniquely) made honorary Lambeth doctors of music by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1932. Geoffrey composed a ballet, orchestral music, chamber and piano works, but these are all neglected. For more on Geoffrey's work, see: http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Lib/Shaw-Geoffrey.htm Shaw published two prosaically-named 'festival suites' in 1936, presumably intended for use in competitive music festivals. Most of the pieces are very short, but some are quite sophisticated musically, and do not appear designed for educational use. These three pieces are the most musically sophisticated items in either set. The third piece echoes the fascination with clocks evident in Shaw's suite 'What Grandfather Plays' - which I have also recorded on YouTube.
