Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Find Total of Excel Cells Without a Formula. Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we're going to explore a handy feature in Excel that allows you to add up numbers without using any formulas. That's right, you heard me correctly. No formulas needed! All you have to do is select a series of cells containing numbers and look down at the status bar. Excel will automatically show you the total of those selected numbers. It's that simple! But wait, there's more! Did you know that you can also customize what appears in the status bar? By right-clicking on the status bar, you can choose to display the sum, average, minimum, maximum, count, or count of just the numeric values. And if you accidentally turn off the sum option, don't worry. Simply click on the area where it used to be and choose "Sum" to bring it back. It's as easy as that. Now, if you're using Excel 2007 or later, you're in luck. The status bar feature has been greatly improved in these versions. Not only does it show the sum, average, minimum, maximum, and count, but you also have the ability to choose which items you want to see. You can even add more items to the status bar, as long as they fit. Just right-click on the status bar and select the options you want to display. It's a great way to customize your Excel experience and make your work more efficient. I know, it's amazing how such a simple feature can make a big difference in our daily use of Excel. And the best part is, not many people know about it! So, next time you're working on a spreadsheet, remember to take advantage of the status bar and its useful features.
