Debate on the constitutional amendment bill seeking to realize gender parity in Parliament kicked off with Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa attempting to introduce amendments to the bill. The speaker Justin Muturi however scuttled his plans by ruling any amendments to the bill should go through a public participation exercise. The bill which seeks to create special seats for the minority gender, was hailed by a majority of MP's as timely and meant to ensure parliament was legally constituted. Majority leader Adan Duale in moving the bill, challenged MP's to make history by passing the law which has remained elusive for 8 years.
