Phillip Sear plays the beguiling second of a set of 'Hojas de Album' (Album leaves) by the Guatemalan composer Manuel Martinez-Sobral (1879-1946). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Guatemalan composer and pianist Manuel Martinez-Sobral (1879-1946) was born in Guatemala City, and received all of his musical education and conducted his composing career within Guatemala. He was self-taught, and learned French and Italian so that he could study European musical textbooks. All his compositions come from between 1895 and 1920, after which he established a career as a lawyer. His scores were apparently rediscovered in 1989. I believe that the Hojas de Album also exist in an version for orchestra.
