Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Customize and Save Chart Formatting in Excel | Time-Saving Tip!

Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast! In this video, we'll be discussing a handy tip for customizing charts in Excel. During one of my recent power Excel seminars, a participant asked how they could apply their customized chart formatting to all future charts. And that's exactly what we'll be covering today.

Usually, when customizing charts, we right-click around the chart to make it look just the way we want. But what if we want to save that formatting for future use? Well, it's actually quite simple. First, select the chart and go to the Charting menu. Then, choose Chart Type and go to the Custom Types tab. From there, click on User-defined and then click the Add button. Give your chart a name, such as "MyChart", and click OK.

But here's the best part - you can even set this chart as the default for all future charts. Just click on the button that says "Set as default chart", click Yes, and then click OK. Now, whenever you have new data and want to create a chart, simply select the data and hit the F11 key. Excel will automatically create a new chart with all of the formatting from your saved chart. This is a great time-saving tip, especially if you need to create charts in company colors or with a specific style.
