Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Custom Sort for Pivot Table Values in Excel

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this video, I'll be sharing a cool tip that I learned in one of my recent Excel seminars. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you have a pivot table with regions listed in alphabetical order, but your company policy dictates a different order? Well, I have a solution for you - pivot rearrangement!

In this example, I have a pivot table with regions listed as Central, East, and West. However, let's say your company policy states that West should come first. No problem! Simply hover your mouse over the word "West" until you see the black four-headed arrow, and then drag it to the desired spot. This will not only move the heading, but also all of the corresponding data. This may seem like a simple trick, but it can save you a lot of time and effort.

But wait, there's more! If you don't want to drag and drop, you can also manually type the heading in the desired spot. This will automatically rearrange the data accordingly. However, this trick only works in pivot tables, not in regular Excel files. It's called manually resequencing the data, and it's a handy tool to have in your Excel arsenal.
