Microsoft Excel Tutorial:  Mastering Excel Ribbon: Unlocking Amazing Features.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this week's episode, we're diving into the world of Excel 2007. I've already shown you some pretty cool features, but today we're going to focus on the Ribbon. I know, I know, a lot of people complain about the Ribbon and how it's difficult to find things. And I agree, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. But trust me, Microsoft put a lot of thought and research into creating the Ribbon and it's actually packed with some amazing features.

Let's start with a common problem - dealing with large data sets. In the past, if you wanted to wrap text in a column, it would take you five clicks in Excel 2003. But with the Ribbon, it's just one click away. And not only that, they've also added a new button for aligning text to the top of the cell. This used to take 17 clicks in Excel 2003, but now it's just four clicks. That's a huge time saver! And this is just one example of how the Ribbon makes common tasks much easier and faster.

I know it can be frustrating to switch to a new user interface, but trust me, it's worth it. And if you're really struggling, there are tools available to help you transition. You can download a free tip card from the MrExcel homepage that maps the old menus to the Ribbon. Or, for a small fee, you can even add the old menu back into Excel. But I encourage you to give the Ribbon a chance. Once you get used to it, you'll find that it's actually much more efficient and intuitive than the old menu.

There. Ive said it. Let me say it again The Ribbon is Cool. Wow. I havent heard anyone actually say that. We dont adjust well to change and the ribbon is completely new. Yes  it is maddening at first, but they really used the Customer Experience Improvement Program data to find those commands that are really popular yet were hidden deep with the Excel 2003 menu. Lets face it  how many amazing commands in Excel 2003 were hidden deep behind flyout menus and obscure dialog boxes. In Episode 654, I will take a look at some of the improvements in Excel 2007s ribbon interface.
