Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Quick Way to Move a Column in Excel

Welcome back to another MrExcel netcast! In this video, we'll be discussing a handy trick for rearranging columns in Excel. This is a question that came up during one of my recent power Excel seminars in Chicago. A participant asked if there was a faster way to move a column to a different location on a worksheet, rather than using the traditional method of inserting and cutting and pasting. And the answer is yes, there is a much quicker way to do this!

First, select the column that you want to move. In this example, we'll be moving the amount in column H and placing it between the invoice number and customer number in columns B and C. Next, use the shortcut CTRL X to cut the column. Then, click on the column where you want to insert the cut column, in this case, column C. Finally, go to the insert menu and choose "cut cells". And just like that, the entire column will be moved to the desired location, saving you time and effort.

This feature is a great time-saver and can be used for rearranging columns in any order on a worksheet. No more tedious steps of inserting and cutting and pasting.
