Renee Geyer is one kick ass vocalist! Discovering her serendipitously via family connections, I was immediately a fan upon hearing her 1975 hit 'Heading In The Right Direction' and for 43 years a devotee! Unrivalled vocally in Australia, Renee had always had a turbulent relationship with fame, the media and the recording industry. Despite all of this she is an inductee in the Australia Recording Artists Hall of Fame and is one of the best known singers and most respected in the land. Her 9 years spent in America backing vocals for Joe Cocker, Sting, Bonnie Raitt and Chaka Khan among countless others, defined most of her 30's before she relocated back to Australia and has continued to record, tour and be a significant figure in the music landscape. I had the enormous pleasure of meeting my idol several times; most notably in 1999 when she agreed to be a guest on a talk show I was directing. That, for me is a career and life highlight so far. Renee was extremely supportive, warm and accesible, something she is not known for so I felt very privileged to have had that encounter and several since. Her voice is astonishing, her stage presence: immense and there is simply nothing she cannot sing and sing sublimely. Most at home with the blues and R&B even those two genres sell Renee's versatility short as she has recorded pop, rock, funk, country, dance music and jazz. This recording used here is the 1977 version of 'Heading In The Right Direction' from her LP 'Moving Along' which still stands as one of my 10 favourite albums ever!!!!! I have multiple clips of Renee Geyer on my channel so as an infamous fellow Aussie would say "Do yourself a favour" and check her out!!!!
