Phillip Sear plays the final piece of 'Libellen - Elegante Tanzweisen' (Dragonflies - elegant dance melodies) from 1876 by the prolific German composer Fritz Spindler (1817-1905). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The German composer Fritz Spindler (1817-1905) initially intended to become a cleric, but turned to music and studied piano in Dessau, and subsequently settled in Dresden in 1841 where he worked as a teacher and composer. He wrote symphonies, chamber music and a piano concerto as well as the salon music and educational sonatinas for which he is slightly remembered today. A Rheinländer is a Swabian country pairs dance from the mid-19th century, similar to a Schottisch. This is the first piano Rheinländer I have come across, but there must be others.
