Police opens new Juvenile detention centre at Jinja Road

The Police has a commissioned a new detention cell targeted at child offenders aged 18 years and below the age of who are arrested on charges of committing crimes. The cell, set up at Jinja Road police station in Kampala, cost 25 million shillings. The structure is planned to distinguish between adult offenders and children, as the two are supposed to be separated under the law. According to a police report, some 1,576 crimes were committed by children, while 2,467 crimes were committed by similar offenders in 2016.
