Welcome back to another episode of the MrExcel podcast! In this video, we're going to cover a handy trick for Excel users - the AutoSum icon. This feature allows you to quickly add a SUM function to a series of blank cells underneath columns of numeric data. Simply select the cells and hit the Σ symbol in the toolbar, and Excel will do the rest for you. This is a great time-saving tool for anyone working with large sets of data.

But that's not all - did you know that you can also use the AutoSum icon in conjunction with the AutoFilter feature? By turning on Data, Filter, AutoFilter, you can filter your data by a specific criteria, such as a particular customer. And here's the best part - when you use the AutoSum icon while your data is filtered, instead of a SUM formula, you'll get a subtotal formula. This formula will only show the value of the visible rows, making it perfect for analyzing subsets of data.

Now, the subtotal function can be a bit tricky to remember - it's =SUBTOTAL(9, and then the range. But by using the AutoSum icon while your data is already filtered, you can easily create this formula without having to remember the exact syntax. It's a simple yet powerful trick that can save you time and effort when working with large datasets.
