Jetting myself and my youtube channel out of the 1970's and into the here and now, i want to share my favourite 13 recording artists of 2013 and their music that has kept me soulful, joyous and inspired for my today and for my tomorrows.

Renee Geyer has been strutting her stuff for 40 years, and has also celebrated a milestone birthday this week (September 2013) and I want to honour her by posting her first up in this celebration of releases that have been most treasured this year.

Renee was named Best Female Vocalist in Australia in 1974 thanks to her breakthrough solo LP 'It's A Man's Man's World' which also generated a minor hit in its title track. The James Brown classic has remained as one of Renee's many signature tunes (testament to the enduring and prolific nature of her career). 

In 2013 Renee recorded an LP called 'Swing' - a big band extravaganza that featured something old, something new, something borrowed and definitely something blue! There is no finer vocalist in Australia in my humble opinion, and in the view of many industry folk and loyal fans that like myself have followed her for decades. The 'Swing' album charted immediately, showing that there is life in the ol gal yet! To have sold records in 5 decades is no mean feat, and this is a singer who has struggled, thrived and survived sometimes all at once! There is no mistaking the legendary tones of Renee Geyer.

In fine form vocally, and right at home with the big band, Renee finds new life in this classic track and it is a musical feast. Please enjoy my tribute to Renee Geyer.
