Phillip Sear plays the first of four Tone Pictures from 1915 by the British composer Edgar Bainton (1880-1956). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The British composer Edgar Bainton (1880-1956) studied with Stanford at the Royal College of Music, and later taught piano at the Newcastle Conservatory. In the 1930s he emigrated to Australia, where he taught at the Sydney Conservatorium - and maybe hastened his neglect for many years by (per the Wikipedia page on him) refusing a teaching post there to Schoenberg on anti-semitic grounds. He wrote chamber, orchestral and instrumental music, and also music dramas. My thumbnail shows a detail from 'The Bathers (Clearing in the Forest)', an 1842 painting by the French artist Constant Troyon (1810-65). This depicts some very shadowy woodland indeed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pianogems
