On November 5th, 2015 after the Million Mask March wrapped up at the Manitoba Legislative Building, Josh Sigurdson and Wendy Bowcott spotted MLA Steve Ashton leaving the building. Steve Ashton has been in politics in Manitoba since 1978 and his daughter Niki Ashton is a sitting MP for the NDP. Steve Ashton's long career with the Manitoba provincial NDP has been controversial to say the least.
Since October 1st, 2015, Brenda Osborne and many other parents and activists have been camped on the front lawn of the Manitoba Legislative Building protesting CFS, demanding answers for their family members who are part of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women statistics. They've been in need of firewood, water, food and adequate shelter as they carry on their protest in front of the Manitoba Legislature in the bitter cold of Winnipeg autumn and winter.
For over a month their tents have been set up directly in front of the NDP government's office windows. The entire caucus is aware they're sitting there, however, these politicians aren't doing their jobs as public servants to actually go down and talk to these good, caring and responsible people.
Josh Sigurdson and Wendy Bowcott take any opportunity to press these issues when politicians involved in the problems are present.
Of course Ashton didn't want to talk about it. No surprises there.
