Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Discover Excel's Backstage View & File Menu | Everything You Need to Know!

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, where we dive into all things Excel. I'm Bill Jelen and today we're taking a closer look at Excel 2010. A few weeks ago, we went through some of the new features, but today we're focusing on the backstage view, also known as the "Out" options. This is where we can customize and manage our documents in a whole new way.

One of the biggest changes in Excel 2010 is the expanded File menu, which has now been renamed as "File" in the final version. This menu takes up the entire screen and gives us access to all the things we can do to our document. From saving and printing to accessing templates and recent documents, everything we used to find on the Office button is now conveniently located in the backstage view.

But what sets the backstage view apart is that it's not just about what we do to our document, but also what we do outside of it. This includes options like customizing the ribbon, adding new sections, and even creating our own custom items. And the best part? We can now see a live preview of our document as we make changes to the print settings, making it easier than ever to get the perfect printout.

In the later builds of Excel 2010, we can even access other ribbon tabs within the backstage view, making it a one-stop-shop for all our document management needs. And don't worry, this new feature will be available in all Office programs, including Word and PowerPoint. So, whether you're a seasoned Excel pro or just getting started, the backstage view in Excel 2010 is sure to make your life easier. Thanks for tuning in to this netcast from MrExcel, and we'll see you next time for more Excel tips and tricks.
