HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) - Art lovers say a historic fountain that was knocked to pieces by a car will likely be rebuilt. Hamilton calls itself the city of sculpture. Between the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and the rest of the city, more than 100 pieces of sculpted art and statues grace the community. But now they have one less. The historic fountain stood in Hamilton until Wednesday when it was hit by a 1957 vintage car. It was located in a pocket park at one of the busiest intersections in Hamilton: Martin Luther King Boulevard and High Street. Police say the 1957 Buick had mechanical problems, ran a red light, was hit by another car and then knocked over the fountain and crashed into a building. The building was dented. The sculpture had it worse -- a sculpture that had a specific theme. "So the sculpture in question, Hebe, was a public drinking fountain that was gifted to the city from First Financial Bank...to celebrate the city getting its public water system," said Jacob Stone, the president of City of Sculpture Organization. Pieces of the sculpture are being stored with the goal to put Hebe, Nymph of Streams and Brooks, back together. Several foundries have already been contacted. "As long as one piece is in good shape, they can reproduce all the other sides if needed. But we have hopes that the vast majority of it will be able to be reassembled," Stone said. The hope is to get the sculpture back to its corner in 2019. Police say the Buick was a total loss. There were no serious injuries, and no one was cited.
