This video covers the disassembly, cleaning, re-assembly and set up of a Squier Telecaster Standard series guitar. The ‘Standard’ series is a strange Fender misnomer as far as I’m concerned but one that often works to my advantage. The quality of the ‘Standard’ is higher than the basic Squier Telecast (no model name), the Squier ‘Affinity’ series or the Squier ‘Bullet’ series. The problem is the common usage of the word ‘standard’ in English implies something average and unremarkable; the basic  unit with no frills. Often (especially in US listings) people refer to the basic no-model ‘Squier Strat’ from the early 90s as  a ‘Squier Strat standard model’ which it isn’t. The Standard model is easily recognised by the two-point floating tremolo. 

Those eBay sellers in the know list used Squier Strat Standards (for example) at around £140. Many youngsters who were bought this model by their parents end up putting them up for sale. They look at other Squier Strat listings and see the ‘no-model’ variants going for around £50 - £60 and assume that their ‘Standard’ model is basically the same. The result is a fair supply of good quality ‘Standards’ for the price of a low-quality basic ‘no-model’ or Bullet. Nice. 

Anyway - this Tele is a nice guitar and the video shows me taking care of a couple of paint dings which a previous owner had filled with a mahogany-coloured wood filler that really stood out followed by a fret-levelling and set up. No real surprises anywhere with this guitar; the result is a very easy to play Telecaster that’s a cut above the no-model / Affinity and Bullets.
