Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Master Pivot Tables in Excel: New Features and Improved Functionality. Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast. In this week's episode, we will be diving into the world of Excel 2007 and exploring one of my all-time favorite features - pivot tables. These powerful tools have been a staple in Excel for years, but with the latest version, Microsoft has added some new functionality that makes them even more useful. To access pivot tables in Excel 2007, simply head to the insert tab on the ribbon and click on the first icon on the left. From there, you can choose your data range and click "ok" to begin building your pivot table. One major change in the interface is that instead of dragging fields from the field list onto the pivot table, you now build the table within the field list itself. There are four drop zones - row labels, column labels, sum values, and report filters - where you can easily add and rearrange fields to customize your pivot table. But that's not all - Microsoft has also added some new features to pivot tables that make them even more versatile. For example, you can now filter to specific customers by using virtual filters that allow you to select customers based on certain criteria. Additionally, if your data contains dates, you can use virtual date filters to show specific time periods such as last week, next month, or even a specific month or quarter. These new options make it easier than ever to analyze and manipulate your data in pivot tables. And let's not forget about the improved formatting options for pivot tables in Excel 2007. In previous versions, we were limited to just 14 options, but now there are over 25,000 variations to choose from. You can easily apply different colors and styles to your pivot table, including banded rows and columns, to make it visually appealing and easy to read. With all these new features, pivot tables have become even more powerful and user-friendly in Excel 2007. So there you have it - a brief overview of the new and improved pivot tables in Excel 2007. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for another episode where we will continue to explore the exciting features of this version.
